Getting you micro data in you blog or listings

Google has come out with a new technology for  getting more accurate local and targeted data  and not many people have caught on with this  new  service available. A new microdata format for helping to build the semantic web has been launched by Bing, Google and Yahoo!.

Microdata uses simple attributes in HTML tags (often <span> or <div>) to assign brief and descriptive names to items and properties

Use of micro-data to promote blogs websites and listing

How it works is if you give Google enough information about your business or blog , it will  record this information and promote it more  through its more targeted channels as well in addition to the normal  channels , like search engine etc.

The HTML5 microdata specification is a way to label content to describe a specific type of information—for example, reviews, person information, or events. Each information type describes a specific type of item, such as a person, and event, or a review

What is Micro Data?

Micro Data (like RDFa and Microformats) is a form of semantic mark-up designed to describe elements on a web page e.g. review, person, event etc. This mark-up can be combined with typical HTML properties to define each item type through the use of associated attributes.

What is Schema ?

Collection of schemas,

Schemas are  i.e., html tags, that webmasters can use to markup their pages in ways recognized by major search providers. Search engines including Bing, Google, Yahoo! and Yandex rely on this markup to improve the display of search results, making it easier for people to find the right web pages.

These data helps correctly index everything on the web, another new data type has been launched in the shape of Schema.org’s microdata. Schema.org has been launched by Bing, Google and Yahoo! with the aim of promoting the “Semantic Web,” which should ultimately make search easier.

An example of how to manually structure micro data is given in this micro data output

Here is an example of standard HTML that might be entered by code or produced by PHP or ASP:

<div>

<h1>A Night at the Opera

<span>Artist: Queen (formed 1971)</span>

<span>Rock, heavy metal</span>

This entry for the rock band Queen’s fourth album might be enhanced with microdata  below:

<div itemscope itemtype =”http://schema.org/music”>
