Use of micro-data to promote blogs websites and listing
How it works is if you give Google enough information about your business or blog , it will record this information and promote it more through its more targeted channels as well in addition to the normal channels , like search engine etc.
The HTML5 microdata specification is a way to label content to describe a specific type of information—for example, reviews, person information, or events. Each information type describes a specific type of item, such as a person, and event, or a review
What is Micro Data?
Micro Data (like RDFa and Microformats) is a form of semantic mark-up designed to describe elements on a web page e.g. review, person, event etc. This mark-up can be combined with typical HTML properties to define each item type through the use of associated attributes.
What is Schema ?
Collection of schemas,
Schemas are i.e., html tags, that webmasters can use to markup their pages in ways recognized by major search providers. Search engines including Bing, Google, Yahoo! and Yandex rely on this markup to improve the display of search results, making it easier for people to find the right web pages.
These data helps correctly index everything on the web, another new data type has been launched in the shape of Schema.org’s microdata. Schema.org has been launched by Bing, Google and Yahoo! with the aim of promoting the “Semantic Web,” which should ultimately make search easier.
